Up for the Challenge

Updated: Mar 18, 2021

Three times before I had hoped to attempt to climb Ben Nevis, but due to a variety of circumstances with members of the group that I was climbing with, we sadly had to rearrange. This time I had my fingers and toes crossed that the trip would happen and I am pleased to say that it did on Saturday 21st July. Our walking group consisted of myself and a group of 3 friends who I climbed Snowdon and Scafell Pike with plus 2 other friends. We set off determined to reach the top and after starting the climb at 9.30am I'm proud to say that we reached the summit 4 ½ hours later at 2pm following numerous stops mainly to nurse my injuries!

We all had our different reasons for making the climb; the challenge, the exercise, the social side of getting together and to say we had completed the 3 peaks! During the 5 years and 7 days (not the hard core 24 hours some complete the challenge in!) we had all overcome major personal issues from a breakdown, divorce, broken ankle and breast Cancer. With this in mind Cancer Research was an obvious charity choice for me, plus everybody that I know has been touched by cancer in some way or another either themselves, a family member or friend and with the continuing need for research also comes the need for continuous fundraising.

I am genuinely thrilled to have climbed and reached the summit of Ben Nevis not only for my own personal sense of achievement, but the fact that I also raised £700 for Cancer Research UK. Thank you so much to everyone that sponsored me, your support was very much appreciated.
